Entertainment on our television is something we all look forward to, either to take a break/ de-stress/ pure enjoyment. Set-top boxes were introduced to Chennai about couple of years back which gave an option of selecting your own channel package and pay for it. This option was liked by most people, but it took off some of the better channels from the normal cable reception.
But now we have a lot of options in the same category, Satellite based television cable reception now has Companies like Tata Sky, Dish TV, SCV, Sun DTH etc.
Tata Sky got launched recently and now has a growing customer base. They have a multitude of packages to choose from. But best of all they have a lot of interactive channels for news, cooking, kids, knowledge and information etc
Dish TV, a strong competitior to Tat Sky, these too offer similar packages, but also have an option where u pick channels and add them to your existing cable tv by paying a very nominal fee every month.
SCV, Sumangali Cable Vision, was the advent of the set-top box era. Almost all households in Chennai own a set-top box from SCV. Though, it is a Chennai based initiative, the reception quality is a matter of question. This I say based on personal experience and the customer service is pretty bad.
Sun DTH, is Sun TV’s new advent in the race for satellite TV, whether it has gained popularity, only time will tell.
Doordarshan DTH: Launched by Doordarshan quite some time back, this is also a good option to consider.
Hathway is another competitor providing DSL, Phone lines and DTH services.
All in all, when choosing for a channel subscribtion, make sure the channels you choose come in one package and the customer service is good. Most of all the recommendations should come from someone you know.
